Why Becoming a B Corp Matters and What It Means for Ignition Law and Our Clients

In April 2024, Ignition Law became a certified B Corporation, joining a global movement of businesses balancing purpose and profit. For us, the journey to certification wasn’t just a badge; it was a strategic and values-driven step that’s reshaping how we operate, serve our clients, and think about growth.

B Corp certification holds companies legally accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders. That means building a business that creates positive impact for our people, clients, communities, and the planet. It also means we’ve rewritten our governance to reflect this commitment and undertaken a rigorous assessment by B Lab, earning a verified impact score of 83.4. We’re now working towards a score of 90+ as we deepen our environmental and social initiatives.

This shift affects our day-to-day work. We’ve introduced an internal ethics committee to guide decision-making, encourage paid volunteer days for employees, and embraced sustainable legal practices.

Our Ignition Forest initiative, in partnership with Tree-nation, is one tangible example. We’ve already planted 136 trees and offset 5.37 tonnes of CO₂. It’s a small but meaningful part of our broader mission to lead responsibly.

As one of only a handful of B Corp-certified law firms in the UK, we’re proud to stand out in a traditionally conservative industry. Our female-led team with 75% of partners and 76% of the firm identifying as women, champions our inclusive leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, and community-led change.

Our clients reflect this ethos too, with a growing number of charities, social enterprises, B Corps, and purpose-driven businesses partnering with us alongside our core work with SMEs, scale-ups, and investors. For clients, our B Corp status signals a trusted legal partner whose values align with theirs.

We see this not as a destination, but a mindset. Being a B Corp challenges us to think beyond legal advice and toward long-term, ethical impact, for our clients, our team, and the wider world.
