Jack Colman

What gets me out of bed in the morning

I’m one of those vile people who’s actually quite chirpy at six a.m. I love my young family, I like where I live, I even like my job, so the ability to combine all three is something that keeps me grateful and enthusiastic every day.

An entrepreneur I admire

I respect anyone who’s willing to back themselves and go it alone, especially in pursuit of a noble cause. Boyan Slat is an impressive character. In 2011, aged 16, he noticed lots of plastic in the water whilst fishing on holiday. Fast-forward three years and he’d founded The Ocean Cleanup and crowdfunded $2.2 million in investment. After years of testing, the cleaning system he invented will soon be on its way to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, while most of the world is only just waking up to the problem.

The fine print

  • Key Practices: Corporate & Commercial
  • Education: King’s College London (LLB); BPP Law School
  • Work: Hogan Lovells LLP
  • Secondment: FCE Bank PLC (Ford Credit Europe)
  • Other interests: I love nature and the outdoors, and I’m particularly interested in conservation, including charities such as Rewilding Europe. I write, and have been fortunate enough to have historical novel The Rule published by HarperCollins. No day finishes without a walk through the forest with my dogs (a vizsla and a German pointer), usually with a baby in the backpack.
