What do you do for your clients at Ignition law?

I give practical advice in relation to IP and commercial matters. I try to understand their priorities by listening/ taking in their instructions and adapt advice so that it is as constructive as possible.

What gets me out of bed in the morning

Breakfast. I have also been known to take it back to bed though.

An entrepreneur I admire

Guy Watson. He does things his way and does his best by the planet and his staff. Also Victoria Beckham for her tenacity.

What would you put on your Ignition Law playlist or bookshelf?

I am a massive fan of the Open Ears Project. It’s a really short daily podcast which features various folk talking about a significant piece of classical music. Then that piece is played in full. I am not a big fan of classical music but there’s a meditative-like quality to this podcast which almost acts like a re-set button. It gives perspective. I love it.

A social cause I care about is

Rethinking education – it’s become so narrow and exam result driven. Education is so important but yet the way schools are run can be so marginalising. We need to revisit the definition of “success” and start teaching young people actual skills which are useful in the real world. Big Change is an example of an organisation which is trying to support changes in this area – big-change.org.

Intellectual Property and Commercial

Education and Training

UCL Law & German Law, LPC College of Law London.

I trained at Bristows, then was part of the IP team at Harbottle & Lewis before moving in house, and then on to set up my own consultancy. I believe lawyers should enable rather than restrict, and that context is king. It’s important to get to the nub of a transaction and work out where the client’s priorities are.

I am also a yoga teacher and (fair weather) wild swimmer.
